This event has evolved into an important and exciting one for the BCCCA and for our industry. Sessions focus on issues central to the growth and survival of private education and training institutions in British Columbia, including:
- Protecting your Student Loan designation – 12 campuses in BC lost their loans designation last month, how can you protect your college’s designation?
- Education Quality Assurance- What the (EQA) initiative means to your college.
- HSD - Major structural changes are coming to HSD that will directly affect funding for student training. Find out what is happening and what it will mean to you.
- PCTIA bylaws - Recent changes in the PCTIA bylaws require all private colleges to meet new educational standards and to establish effective advisory boards. Find out what the changes mean, how compliance is assessed, and how other colleges are dealing with these issues.
- Opportunities for Growth – Finding and responding to training RFPs, and working with international recruiters.
- …. and more. See the conference agenda for more details.
- The conference also provides an Operations Track with valuable sessions for mid-level administrators and front line staff. This includes a full Financial Aid Officer workshop at no extra cost to conference attendees.
This is also a great opportunity to meet Julie Bradley, our energetic and gregarious new BCCCA Executive Director. Julie started as the Executive Director on July 1, and has already made a big, positive impact.
Conference Participants
Turning Tides Together brings the province’s Private Post-Secondary Institutions together with corollary agencies, associations, stakeholders, and partners for a few days of collaboration and networking.
Times are changing, the tide is turning, and when we put out the call for presenters and participants we immediately encountered a positive eagerness to participate on the part of our industry partners, regulators and stakeholders. They want to work closely with private education and training institutions, and the best way to do that is through an effective, engaged industry association.
The result is a lineup that may be the most inclusive in BCCCA conference history. Participants include the following Agencies and Associations:
- BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT)
- BC Council on International Education (BCCIE)
- Education Quality Assurance Brand (EQA)
- National Association of Career Colleges (NACC)
- Student Aid BC (SABC)
- Association of Service Providers for Employability and Career Training (ASPECT)
- BC High School Counselors Association (BCHSCA)
- Private Career Training Institutions Association (PCTIA)
- Ministry of Housing and Social Development (HSD)
- Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development (ALMD)
- Languages Canada

- And more…
In addition, many industry partners and vendors are participating as exhibitors, and as sponsors of conference events. You will have opportunities to find out what exhibitors have to offer while you network with your colleagues during breaks, lunches and receptions.
Special Guests and Networking Opportunities
The focus of this event is working together to create better opportunities for all, so it is also important to have fun together. With that in mind, we have filled the conference with quality entertainment, and activities that offer something for everyone:
Special Guest Performer Sept. 10th: Ali Milner!
Ali Milner is a singer/songwriter with a pure sound and amazing vocal depth with a modern edge for a classic genre that has been described as shades of Sam Cooke and Norah Jones rolled into one. She sings her own songs, rhythm and blues. Her growth has included the Olympics, legendary singers Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan at Lilith Fair, and earlier with the likes of Michael Buble. She has performed globally and for audiences that included HRH Prince Andrew of England and Premeir Gordon Campbell.

What others have to say about Ali...
“The final track “Can’t Change This Girl” was born to be her calling card because it crystalizes Milner’s classy vocals and the sophisticated songwriting that is bound to become her signature style...
All in all the album serves as a great throw back to the classic sounds of big band charmers like the Rat Pack that sounds equally influenced by modern artists like Norah Jones or Allison Krauss. The songs on I Dare You are held together with soulful melodies wrapped up in Milner’s ravishing vocals that will leave anyone searching for Canada’s next diva breathless.”
