The BC Career Colleges Association was set up in 1977 to promote and support those involved in private post-secondary education. Our aim is to ensure that the private training industry is recognized for the high level training and student satisfaction it delivers. With a shortage of skilled workers in B.C. and inadequate seats in the public post-secondary system, private institutions are a vital part of the education picture in this province.

STUDENTS’ ARTWORK RECOGNIZED BY UK MAGAZINE
Centre animation student gets full page spread with 3D World Magazine

Trent Trombley, a 3D Animation student at the Centre for Arts and Technology, was notified this week that his 3D animated image of a tree frog was picked by 3D World Magazine for their December issue.  His image is spread across two pages and was chosen among hundreds of images submitted via the internet. The honour is a great boost for Trent who’s in his second year at the Centre.
Combining raw talent with industry-focused education is a winning combination and that’s what Trombley received from the Centre in Kelowna. “I'm very pleased with Trent's latest achievement”, says Fransisco Carreon Argudin, the Centre’s 3D Animation instructor.  “I truly believe that hard work and perseverance are virtues difficult to master.  Trent, in his daily work, tries to achieve this and I'm looking forward to seeing his development in the future.”

Trombley submitted his image of the “Red Eyed Tree Frog” to CG Networks, an online digital arts website, and the art director from 3D World, an industry magazine based in the UK, noticed his image and asked that they feature it in their exhibition section.  They sent him a copy of the December issue along with a token gift for his participation.

“I couldn’t believe it when they contacted me”, says Trombley, a graduate of Quesnel High School. “It’s great to have your artwork recognized by such a well-known industry publication.  I’m really motivated now to create another piece even better than the last.”

Trombley’s interest in animation started in high school where he took art and computer classes and eventually worked on robotics projects.  He started in the Game Art and Animation program at the Centre in October 2004 and will graduate July 2006. He hopes to become an animator with a gaming company in the future.

Trombley is only one of the many success stories for the Centre. Students at the Centre learn by doing alongside industry professionals in non-traditional classrooms.  Coursework is vetted by industry to ensure content is relevant and on trend, and students enjoy modern facilities and state-of-the-art equipment.  Other features include flexible learning options, condensed programs, smaller class sizes, one-on-one attention, and hands-on education.
